Here is a short Guide to help you travel to Koh Phangan.

The nearest International airport is located on the island of Koh Samui (USM). It is one of the cutest airports you will ever see, in fact, many people have said it thinks its a resort.

Transportation from the airport to the ferry pier is very easy. Ferries depart several times a day with the last one leaving around 17:30. The next closest airport is Surathani (URT) From here you’ll need to travel by bus + boat to get to the island, which takes a few hours.

Bat to Koh Phangan

Boats from Koh Samui:

Catching a boat over to Koh Phangan can be done at the following piers depending on where you want to arrive on the island.

  • Big Buddha pier;
    There are at least 3 different ferry companies providing trips to Thongsala pier. However, the Seatran Discovery and the Haad Rin Queen Ferries take you directly to Haad Rin.
  • Nathon pier;
    Songserm ferries people to Thongsala every day.
  • Mae Nam pier;

Boats From Koh Tao:

Songserm, Lomprayah and the Seatran boats all depart frequently from Mae Haad Pier.

Getting Koh Phangan By Train and Boat:

Taking the overnight train from Bangkok with a proper bed is also a comfortable way to get Koh Phangan. Trains stop early morning at Surathani. then leaving only a bus and boat ride to the Island. Train tickets from Surathani back to Bangkok should be reserved in advance especially during the high season.

The easiest way is to take one of the overnight buses that leave Khaosan Road each evening about 18.00 and arrives in Surathani the following morning, then take a boat. Also, Bus and boat combo ticket can be arranged for about 700-900 Baht all the way to Koh Phangan.
